Station 8 - AirMax Dn8 launch

GTMConsumer‑Led Strategy

How a ground-up, community-first launch turned Nike's newest Air Max into a global movement.

Context

Air Max Dn8 was Nike's newest sneaker innovation, built on a full-length Dynamic Air cushioning system. Across Asia and Latin America, Air Max had drifted into a cycle of seasonal, transactional launches, losing its connection with the young, creative communities that once made it iconic. Those consumers live with a clear tension: pressure to fit in versus a strong urge to express who they are.

Problem

A great product alone would not win back relevance. We needed one launch that felt local and authentic in five very different markets, and that turned cultural energy into real demand online and in stores.

Approach

We flipped the model from launch-first to community-first. The journey started in Bangkok with Station 8, a three-day cultural exchange that brought together artists, designers and creators from five markets to create their own interpretations of the shoe. They then took those ideas home to launch events in Seoul, Tokyo, Mexico City and beyond, so each city launch was led by its own community. I supported the strategy turning the community story into a commercial journey: shaping the content across Nike.com, the Nike App, live content, social media, personalized messaging, paid media and retail partners, and unlocking new high-visibility homepage placements that weren't yet available in the region, so the campaign lived where consumers shop most.

Results

Station 8 was picked up by leading sneaker media (Complex, Fast Paper and Sneaker Freaker) before the shoe even dropped, and more than 6,000 consumers signed up to be notified at launch. In its first week, Dn8 generated $3.8M in retail sales. The community-first model became the new standard for Air Max launches across the region, with live events in Korea doubling earned media coverage.
